CHIEF Magistrate Tim Carmody
has dumped the controversial bikie bail direction
that sidelined most of his colleagues and police
prosecutors.
From today, any magistrate will again be able to hear contested bikie bail applications – four months after Judge Carmody ordered cases only be heard in a certain courtroom, meaninghe and his deputy dealt with most of them.
Police prosecutors, who were told they were no longer to handle the applications because the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions would take on the responsibility, will now be able to return to the courtroom to argue bikie bail cases.
“This was only ever an interim measure,” Judge Carmody told The Courier-Mail.
