BIKIE RAIDS: Drugs, firearms seized around Warwick

A MASSIVE stash of unlawful firearms and drugs has been uncovered in a police operation carried out throughout Warwick and the Southern Downs.

About $20,000 worth of drugs, including cocaine and ice, as well as six firearms and a gun silencer were among the illegal items seized.

Nineteen people have been charged with 65 offences following the three-day operation across the Labour Day long weekend.

Some of those charged are alleged associates of outlawed motorcycle gangs including the Finks, Bandidos and Lone Wolf.

The Warwick Criminal Investigation Branch worked with the Major Organised Crime Gangs Squad and Brisbane-based Drug and Gun Detection Dog Squad to carry out 10 search warrants throughout Warwick, Leyburn, Killarney and Wheatvale.

Detective Sergeant Darren Tamblyn said a substantial quantity of cocaine, ice, steroids and money believed to be the proceeds of drug supply was located.

"Of concern during these early morning raids were a number of weapons including shotguns, semi-automatic weapons and a shotgun silencer located by police," he said.

"During one of the raids, a shotgun was located readily accessible to persons at the front door of the premises."

A raid at a Leyburn address yesterday morning allegedly uncovered about $10,000 worth of ice.

Sgt Tamblyn said that during the raids people were also issued with consorting notices for associating with people they shouldn't have.

Men and women aged 25-54 were arrested and charged with serious drug and firearm offences, including the unlawful supply of cocaine, steroids and ice.

All those charged were locals from the Warwick and Darling Downs region.

Sgt Tamblyn said he was disappointed but not surprised to uncover the large amount of drugs and firearms within the Warwick area.

"A lot of the entries we made were forced entries because our investigations led us to believe there would be firearms there," he said.

"Information from the public through Crime Stoppers and other means was integral in it being such a success.

"The public are quite often our eyes and ears to critical information.''

All those charged were released on bail and are due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on June 6.
