Fruiterer edges out notorious bikie gang

01 Aug, 2012 08:29 AM

A CHAPTER of the notorious Gypsy Jokers motorcycle gang will move from its long-time headquarters in Wodonga to allow a fruit and vegetable operation to expand its business.

The Jokers, internationally regarded as one of the most violent outfits in Australia and the United States, is seeking approval to switch camps from east Wodonga to the western fringe of the city, according to the Border Mail.

An application has been lodged with the local council to build new club rooms on an industrial estate close to the Hume Freeway.

Wodonga Gypsy Jokers' spokesman Brett Collins said the club had decided to sell its existing premises, to allow Arnold's Fruit Market to take over its land, the Mail said

“Roger Arnold was expanding his business and bought out basically the whole block, including our club rooms,” Mr Collins said. “So we need a new home.”

“I've been speaking to the immediate neighbours and they're quite happy to have us for the security side of things,” Mr Collins said. “And of course they can come have a beer.”

The club is also applying to transfer an existing liquor licence to the new club rooms.

The gang is notorious for its links to the 2001 car bomb murder in Perth of former police officer Don Hancock in retaliation for the death of gang member Billy Grierson.
