POLICE are searching waterways across Sydney for a pistol used in the shooting of the Hells Angels member Peter Zervas last year.

Six extra suspects are being investigated over the alleged shooting conspiracy.

The commander of the gangs squad, Superintendent Steve French, said Strike Force Mezen had begun searching for a 9mm Luger at Salt Pan Creek in Revesby after receiving fresh information.

Superintendent French said police hoped to match the gun to the cartridges used in the shooting.

Police were also questioning residents in Fairmont Street, Lakemba, after receiving new information that a stolen green Holden Commodore was seen undertaking surveillance in the weeks before the shooting.

Police are investigating more than six members of the Comanchero bikie gang who are believed to have been involved in the shooting and the surveillance.

Peter Zervas was shot more than six times while getting out of his car in front of his mother's home in Lakemba on March 29, 2009. He survived the attack.
