Ex-bikie assaulted, car rammed in East Maitland

BREAKING: Central Hunter police are investigating the serious assault of an ex-member of the Gladiators outlaw motorcycle gang who was left injured and lying on a road in East Maitland last night.

They've appealed for information from the public on the assault which happened at the intersection of Mitchell Dr and Worcester Dr about 9.30pm.

Police said a man was driving a white Holden Barina when his car was rammed from behind by a white Ford Falcon at the intersection.

They said Barina spun around and then came to a stop. Two men were seen to get out of the Ford and allegedly assault him.

Police said initial inquiries have revealed a number of other people, travelling in a light coloured sedan, may have been involved in the assault.

The 42-year-old was left lying on the road and was assisted by members of the public until paramedics arrived.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital with serious head and leg injuries where he is waiting for surgery.

Officers established a crime scene which was examined by specialist officers.

They've since canvassed the area and spoken to residents and possible witnesses but believe members of the public passing by could have witnessed the incident and have not yet spoken to police.

Central Hunter Detectives are investigating the incident and have established the man is an ex-member of the Gladiators Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.

The region's crime manager Detective Inspector John Zdrilic said investigations were continuing into a possible internal feud.

"There is a distinct possibility that this could be an internal feud among current and former Gladiator members," he said.

"Not withstanding that, this is a violent offence that has occurred and police will treat this matter like any other matter and it will be investigated to the letter of the law.

"If people are found to be involved in incidents like this one, they will be arrested, charged and prosecuted.

"If you commit a violent offence in the Central Hunter command, there are no boundaries, it will be investigated."

The bashing follows the arrest of two former Gladiatiors who allegedly tried to kill the Maitland bikie Chapter president in a shooting at North Rothbury earlier in the area.
