POLICE believe Gold Coast locals likely heard or saw something in the lead-up to a stabbing murder on a suburban street.

The man, believed to be aged 28, died after being stabbed multiple times in the chest early on Sunday morning.

Video footage shows him stumbling around the entrance to an apartment complex on Old Burleigh Rd, Broadbeach, before collapsing about 5.45am (AEST) on Sunday.

The man was found shortly afterwards by his friends, who were staying in the complex, and paramedics were called, but he died at the scene.

Police found his phone in a park across the street, but are yet to find the murder weapon.

Officers believe the attack happened between 4am and 5.45am.

They say there was likely suspicious activity in the area in the lead up to the attack and up to fifteen minutes afterwards.

Police are urging any locals who saw or heard anything between 4am and 6am on Sunday to contact them.
