Bikies fly in for club celebration

Luke Eliot, The West Australian Updated June 23, 2012, 3:54 pm

Dozens of Comanchero bikies are expected to arrive in Perth today for a party to celebrate the opening of the gang’s Northbridge clubhouse.

Gang crime squad officers believe at least 15 bikies, mostly from NSW, will arrive this morning, but assistant police commissioner Nick Anticich said some intelligence suggested up to 70 members and associates could be heading to WA.

They will join about a dozen local patched members and nominees at the gang’s Northbridge clubhouse, which has been based at the Fitness and Fight Centre on Wellman Street since at least early 2010.

“We have intelligence to suggest they are having a function to celebrate the opening of a clubroom in Northbridge, albeit I think that clubhouse has been there for some time,” Mr Anticich said.

“As part of that, we’re expecting a contingent of Comanchero members from interstate.”

Mr Anticich said police believed most of the Eastern States bikies would be travelling on commercial flights, with contingents expected to arrive last night and this morning.

“We have stood up an operation to respond and contain. Our intention will be to have a capability to deal with any unlawful or illegal acts that come as a consequence,” he said.

“The conflicts and who they exist between changes from time to time but right now we have nothing to suggest any conscious or deliberate threat.”
