National initiatives to tackle OMCG - Gangs Squad

Tuesday, 26 July 2011 03:08:51 PM

The nation's gang squad commanders are meeting in Sydney for the next two days to discuss new strategies to combat illegal activities by Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs.

OMCG groups are involved in drug running, corruption, fraud, serious assaults and murders. Tackling these organisations continues to be a major priority of police across the country and New Zealand.

Commander of the NSW Gangs Squad, Superintendent Arthur Katsogiannis, says this conference will look at a number of initiatives:

  • The development of a national OMCG database,

  • Proactive targeting teams

  • National Liaison Officers.

"As organised crime has no borders, law enforcement agencies have to continually look at new and better ways to work together to crush these criminal groups,” Supt Katsogiannis said.

"This conference is designed to demonstrate the resolve of the nation's police forces to relentlessly pursue these criminal groups."
