Rebels head for Mildura

Updated: 21:53, Wednesday October 5, 2011

Members of the Rebels bikie gang are converging on Mildura in Victoria ahead of a national run due to start on Friday, South Australian police say.

Several hundred members of the gang are expected to attend the event.

Police in South Australia said officers from the Crime Gangs Task Force were monitoring a convoy of Rebels currently heading through SA, including a number travelling to Mildura from Western Australia.

A spokesman said a 50-year-old Rebels member from WA had already been reported for speeding near Kimba, on Eyre Peninsula.

He said the rider was detected travelling at 191km/h in a 110km/h zone and immediately lost his licence for six months and had his Harley Davidson impounded for 28 days.

Detective Inspector Steve Taylor said SA police would continue to manage large numbers of outlaw bikies on the state's roads.

'Unless we manage and control them they have a complete and utter disregard for the law and other road users,' he said.
