Bankstown 2003!

Well the day started typically well, bit of cloud at 6am when I got up,then by 7 it was pissing down. How wonderful, only 50 odd kms of suburban streets in the rain with my son on the back, who'd rather ride with me than in the truck (must run in the family, poor bugger...).God had a good laugh at my optimism that it couldnt rain the whole way,... after all the forecast was only occasional showers.......With the obligatory wet nuts (someone make some decent cheap waterproof pants..pleeeeeassseeee....) we arrived at the gate 50 minutes after leaving home doing our best drowned rat impressions. I felt better after having my first styrofoam coffee that had of course been superheated in a nuclear reactor for 3 days, burnt my fingers and lips, and took 45 minutes to be cool enough to drink, and then sent me waddling hurriedly to the only bog that was 50 meters away across slippery wet bitumen.....And all for $2.50..what a bargain...

Unburdening myself of the extra 5 kilos of (snort!) waterproof gear I tried to look organised at my appointed position of authority, constantly being ignored by people who shouldve been asking me where to put their bikes. Mostly ignoring the obvious response when the odd non -myopic paused for instructions, things started sorting themselves out. What was obvious very early on was that I should take my pride and joy, that I'd parked next to me , and park it round the back and deny ownership. There was some seriously nice stuff coming in...(bikes you deviates!!). By noon the show area was about 90% full, and bikes were still being entered regularly. In all we had around 100 entries, which makes it the best year yet.

Judging time rolled around and with 20 categories its a time consuming task.Fortunately as is usually the case we get help from industry bods, and this year it was Carlo and Scotty, thanks...I didnt want to have to do Best Evo or Most Outstanding...too hard.. too many examples of fine craftsmens' art...
