2:27p.m. 16 May 2008
Six people have been arrested on drugs charges on the Sunshine Coast
after police raids targeting outlaw motorbike gangs.
A number of search warrants were executed on the Coast and in
Maryborough this morning as part of an ongoing operation, called
Operation Golf Cyclone, in the North Coast police region.
The joint crackdown involving officers from the local region and State
Crime Operations Task Force Hydra is targeting “places of interest” in
relation to the Black Uhlans, Gypsy Jokers and Bandidos motorbike gangs,
a police spokesperson said.
Cannabis, ecstasy and amphetamines were seized during the searches on
the Sunshine Coast, with six people arrested on a total of 17 charges.
A search of a property in Palmwoods yesterday led to the seizure of more
than 1.5 kilograms of a substance believed to be amphetamines and more
than 1 kilogram of cannabis.
All the alleged offenders will be appearing at Maroochydore, Noosa or
Maryborough Courts early next month.
Searches in Maryborough led to eight people being arrested on 14 charges
following the seizure of cannabis, ecstasy, amphetamines and cash.
North Coast Region Acting Chief Superintendent Allan Bourke said that
officers within the region would continue to target organised crime.
“Today’s searches demonstrate the ongoing strong commitment in the
region to address the illegal activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs in
the region,” he said
“Officers will continue to target organised crime within the region to
ensure the safety for all residents.”
