POLICE from Strike Force Tracksuit are appealing for witnesses to the
shooting of a 31-year-old man at Windsor on Monday evening, identified
in The Hawkesbury Gazette as Mick May, president of a local bikie gang.
Speaking at a press conference at Windsor Police Station this afternoon,
Detective Inspector Brett McFadden said Mr May's male assailant had been
caught on CCTV footage, and was described as wearing a T-shirt with
motifs on it "consistent with gang wear".
Det Insp McFadden said the assailant had argued with the victim, a
member of the Life and Death Motorcycle Club, at 5.40pm on George Street
prior to shooting the victim with a small-calibre pistol, hitting the
man in the left leg.
"We haven't been able to speak to the victim at length...there's been
little information from the victim so we're appealing to the community
to assist us," Det. Insp. McFadden said.
"It could be an internal gang matter, or a rival gang involved."
The Life and Death club denied this week that the attack on its
president was gang-related.
"If they'll come and talk to us, we'll be more than happy to talk to
them," Det. Insp. McFadden said.
The victim is now recovering at Hawkesbury Hospital and is in a
satisfactory condition. He is not under police guard.
"We don't know what's motivating this, and we ask any witnesses to the
incident to contact Windsor detectives on 4560 6999 or Crime Stoppers on
1800 333 000," Det. Insp McFadden said.
Strike Force Tracksuit is made up of detectives from Hawkesbury Police
and the State Crime Command's Gangs Squad who have been working together
closely since Monday night's attack.
