ONE
of
the
Gold
Coast's
most
notorious
bikies
has
been
refused
bail
over
a
vicious
spree
of
violence
that
left
five
people
in
hospital.
Nicholas
John
Forbes
–
also
known
as
Nick
the
Knife
–
appeared
yesterday
in
Southport
Magistrate's
Court
with
two
other
men
connected
to
the
Finks
outlaw
motorcycle
gang
to
face
charges
stemming
from
a
30-minute
burst
of
violence
in
the
Broadbeach
Mall
that
started
about
3am
on
Sunday.
The
court
was
told
Forbes,
38,
and
Dion
Gerhard
Pydde,
22,
left
Broadbeach's
Platinum
nightclub
and
started
randomly
attacking
strangers.
A
few
minutes
later
they
were
joined
by
Phillip
Bruce
Main,
35,
of
Hope
Island,
who
king-hit
two
men
outside
the
Broadbeach
McDonald's,
the
court
was
told.
All
three
men
were
allegedly
involved
in
the
assault
of
several
other
people
in
the
area
in
the
following
minutes,
before
they
were
arrested
by
police.
Police
yesterday
released
horrifying
footage
of
the
rampage,
which
showed
men
approaching
several
groups
of
apparent
strangers
and
punching
and
kicking
them
while
other
people
looked
on
in
terror.
Five
of
the
victims
were
taken
to
hospitals
across
the
Gold
Coast
with
serious
head
injuries
from
the
attacks.
Forbes,
sporting
a
mohawk
hairstyle
in
court,
made
no
application
for
bail,
though
defence
lawyer
Bill
Potts
did
not
rule
out
applying
for
bail
in
the
coming
weeks.
Magistrate
Michael
Hogan
originally
granted
bail
to
Main,
but
it
was
revoked
when
it
was
discovered
that
his
alleged
role
in
the
attack
had
breached
bail
conditions.
Mr
Hogan
refused
bail
for
Pydde
after
police
prosecutor
Sen-Sgt
Lavonda
Maloy
told
the
court
he
had
an
"extreme
history
of
violence"
and
was
likely
to
engage
in
more
violence
if
released.
She
said
he
had
close
ties
to
the
Finks,
who
were
known
to
intimidate
witnesses
to
stop
them
testifying
in
court
cases.
Mr
Hogan
agreed
that
Pydde
posed
"an
unacceptable
risk',
despite
argument
from
his
lawyer,
Cameron
Brown,
that
he
was
not
a
member
of
the
Finks.
Pydde
was
also
charged
over
an
unrelated
assault
of a
man
at
the
Arundel
Freedom
service
station
on
January
18.
Pydde
and
his
brother,
Aaron
Joacham
Pydde,
23,
allegedly
attacked
a
man
who
had
just
taken
his
car
through
a
car
wash.
Aaron
Pydde
was
granted
bail
on
the
condition
he
live
with
his
parents
in a
Coomera
caravan
park.
All
four
men
will
reappear
in
Southport
Magistrate's
Court
on
March
6.
