Bikie remanded in bail bid

A REBELS motorcycle gang member has asked the Adelaide Magistrates Court to release him on bail so he can assist his cancer-striken partner.
Prosecutors, however, say Guy Anthony Clift has threatened to kill the relatives of those who "inform" on his activities.

"We have some concerns in relation to potential witnesses in this matter," prosecutor Elizabeth Griffith said.

"In one (intercepted) phone call, Clift is talking to another person and says that he believes that person has provided information to the police.

"He states `I promise when I get out of jail, I'm going to bury your brother'."

The 34-year-old, of Flagstaff Hill, has yet to plead to charges of trafficking a large quantity of commercial ecstasy, money laundering and unlawful possession.

The charges follow police raids on three properties that netted $274,000 in cash, 1.3kg of ecstasy tablets, 3.5g of methylamphetamine and 20 guns.

Today Andrew Moffa, for Clift, said bail inquiry reports showed his client was suitable for home detention.

"This is a man who's been in a defacto relationship for 4 1/2 years, who has four children with a fifth on the way – his partner is four months' pregnant," he said.

"Unfortunately, she is also suffering from cervical cancer."

He said two different employers had already offered Clift work, and that he was not a flight risk.

Ms Griffith, however, said Clift might interfere in ongoing investigations.

She said the guarantors Clift had nominated – including his partner – were unsatisfactory, as they were involved in the allegations.

Magistrate Alfio Grasso ordered a report be prepared about Clift's mother, and his defacto mother-in-law, to see if they would be appropriate guarantors.

He remanded Clift in custody until next month.
