Finks linked to raids

A MAN regarded by police as the most violent offender in Queensland was allegedly one of four people arrested in Gold Coast raids yesterday.

The raids netted police 5000 ecstasy tablets worth $175,000 and almost $17,000 in cash.

It is believed three of the four people arrested have direct links with the Finks.

Bikie sources told The Gold Coast Bulletin that one of the men arrested at a house in Whitian Street, Carrara, was believed to be the main drug supplier to the Finks on the Gold Coast.

The man, 35, was released from jail in December after being found not guilty of attempted murder.

Surfers Paradise CIB boss Detective Inspector John Hartwell said that Gold Coast detectives and members of the police operation Taskforce Hydra carried out raids at Carrara, Parkwood and Miami. He said the Carrara and Parkwood addresses were raided simultaneously at 6.30am.

"At Carrara, detectives found the back door unlocked and they just walked in with their warrant," he said.

Police said the 5000 ecstasy tablets, which were almost certainly imported, were found in a bag in a ground-floor room that appeared to be used as an office.

Further searches of the two-storey, rented house found $16,950 in cash, 65 vials of steroids, three syringes with steroids inside them and a set of knuckledusters.

A 23-year-old man and his 23-year-old stripper girlfriend were arrested at Carrara.

Det-Insp Hartwell said the raid on a house in Snead Court, Parkwood, at the same time turned up nine bags of speed, plus more steroids.

They arrested a 20-year-old Finks nominee at the Parkwood address.

Later in the morning, detectives charged another Finks associate on summons with possession of an ice pipe at a Miami address.

Det-Insp Hartwell said detectives returned to the Carrara house after the original raid and found a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with stolen number plates.

"We confiscated the bike and we are doing checks to see if it is stolen," he said.

"We believe these drugs were intended for the local Gold Coast market and the amount seized exceeded the amount we expected and we have disrupted a significant drug distribution network."

Three men and one woman will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today charged with a range of drug offences including possession of a dangerous drug and possessing steroids.
