Nothings Easy

Got up around 7, no work today, and headed into the garage around 8. Borrowed the ring compressor yesterday so slapped it on the rear piston. With the g/f supporting the piston slipped on the barrel, after about 1/2 an hour of trying to get the piston to stop moving downwards with it...hence the wire brush handle under the front piston.

As Ive said b4 I hate doing rings, but persevered and got the second set on without breaking anything

And then the barrel.Sounds quick but took me about 3 hours...

Starting to look the part but troubles ahead...Actually put both heads on and the rear rocker box, and then found the engine wouldnt rotate down thru bottom dead center...

Scatched my head, made a few phone calls dreading what I thought it must be....Felt like a mechanical hook up somewhere, and probably at the point where the pistons are just meant to pass each other, and the rear one is relieved for this purpose...So to bits it came again. Sure enough when the front  barrel was pulled and I could see the relief in the skirt of the back piston, I could see it wasnt as great as the original...

Old piston on the left, new one on the right marked where the bottom of the barrel came to....Had to take most of that material out. Wasn't gonna do it myself, but it was either that or wait another 4days...so out with the little stones for the drill press....

took about 1/2 an hour, polished it up with wet and dry, then back together again. got both barrels back on, and this time she rotates. Had enuf for today, tackle it again tomorrow.

Theres another problem looming tho, no farking rocker box gaskets available.....
