'Bikie' bowling club future hangs in
the balance
The newly-appointed voluntary administrator of the Weston Bowling Club, near
Cessnock in the Hunter Valley, should know within a month if the club can
become a viable operation again.
The NSW Department of Gaming and
Racing yesterday withdrew an application for the club's six month closure,
with the Licensing Court instead appointing Newcastle firm Lawler Partners
as the voluntary administrator.
The court action was initiated due to
concerns the club was being run by members of the Bandidos motorcycle gang,
two of whom are facing drugs charges.
The department 's assistant director
of compliance, Albert Gardener, says he is confident the administrator can
ensure the club continues to trade.
"They'll look at all aspects of the
club's operations and of course there's Clubs NSW and our case officers
who'll work closely with the temporary administrator to ensure that the
club, if possible, can trade out of this situation," he said.
"We'd expect within a month, I
suppose, to have a much more clearer idea of exactly how viable this club
will be."
