Police watch bikies on holiday ride
Police throughout the Queensland's north-west say they will keep a close eye
on an outlaw motorcycle gang that is holding its annual recreational ride
from Darwin to Cairns.
The 100 members of the Coffin Cheaters
were escorted out of the Northern Territory by a contingent of 70 police,
but once they crossed the border just eight officers were waiting for them.
Mount Isa's uniform branch, detectives
and dog squad were posted at the Mount Isa truck port on the Barkly Highway,
but it was a slow procession as the bikies were dispersed over a 300
kilometre stretch.
Some stopped for lunch and mechanical
repairs, but the trip has been incident-free.
Police say it is a routine procedure
for large groups to be monitored, but the gang would most likely be
intercepted at various points.
