THE younger brother of Gold Coast mobile phone entrepreneur Ron Bakir has been granted bail after spending the past six months in prison awaiting a committal hearing on attempted murder charges.

Yassar Bakir, 31, is accused of shooting a 30-year-old New Zealand man at least four times at close range on a secluded road at Main Beach on the Gold Coast in June this year.

The Finks bikie club member was granted bail in Brisbane Supreme Court today on strict conditions which included a $100,000 surety.

He was also banned from entering the Gold Coast, except for court appearances.

Yassar Bakir is facing charges of attempted murder, robbery with violence, deprivation of liberty and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Bail was denied earlier this year due to concern Yassar Bakir would interfere with several crown witnesses, and prosecutor Tamara Thomson said many witnesses still feared his release.

"He is a person of great influence in the Gold Coast area ... some witnesses are fearful of the applicant should he be released on bail,'' she said.

"This is not a matter of an individual who commits break and enters and the like - it's a member of an organised crime syndicate.''

However, Justice Debra Mullins was concerned about delays in bringing the case to a committal hearing, now due to begin on March 26 next year.

She said the matter would not reach trial until at least early 2008 and was reluctant to keep him behind bars awaiting the hearing.

Under the bail conditions Yassar Bakir will live with a brother and his family at their Sydney residence and commute to Queensland.

He will also need to abide by a 9am to 6pm curfew and report to police five times a week.
