POLICE were looking for the brother of mobile phone tycoon Ron Bakir for Bakir allegedly shooting a man on the Gold Coast.

Detectives have issued a warrant for the arrest of Yassar Bakir, 31, an alleged senior member of the Finks bikie gang.

Police claim Mr Bakir shot New Zealand national Pita William Wilson, 30, up to five times on a secluded road at Main Beach, north of Surfers Paradise, at about 9.15pm (AEST) last Friday following an altercation between the pair.

Mr Wilson remains in a serious but stable condition under police guard at Gold Coast Hospital.

Police are also worried about the safety of Gold Coast licensed bouncer Steven Milton Hill, 27, who allegedly drove Mr Wilson to meet Mr Bakir.

Mr Hill was arrested yesterday and charged with attempted murder but was freed on bail today when he appeared in Southport Magistrates Court.

Police have described Mr Bakir as being of Middle Eastern appearance, 180cm tall, with a solid build, black hair and brown eyes. They consider him dangerous.

"The man has already displayed a propensity for violence," Gold Coast Acting Detective Inspector Nev Huth said today.

Police say the wanted man is the younger brother of Crazy Ron's founder Ron Bakir, who funded part of the legal defence for convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby until the Lebanese-born entrepreneur fell out with her family last year.

In court today police prosecutor Constable Sarah Fox opposed bail for Mr Hill, fearing he would become the victim of a revenge attack by the Finks.

Mr Hill's solicitor Bill Potts said outside court his client "rejects such allegations".

"He says he's not in any danger at all," Mr Potts added.

Mr Potts denied Mr Hill was a member of a bikie gang and said there was no evidence his client had any knowledge Mr Wilson would be hurt.

Const Fox said the meeting between Mr Wilson and Mr Bakir was supposed to take place at popular tourist spot Fishermans Wharf but Mr Hill continued driving Mr Wilson along a dark stretch of road on Seaworld Drive.

Mr Wilson spotted a man walking along the road and Mr Hill stopped his jeep to let him out for the pre-arranged meeting before continuing to drive further north until out of sight.

Insp Huth said Mr Wilson was shot "three to five times" – in the stomach, hands and right shoulder – as he approached Mr Bakir, who had allegedly concealed a 9mm handgun behind his back.

Mr Hill allegedly did a U-turn in the jeep and drove past Mr Wilson, failing to help him as he lay on the ground in distress.

He must reappear in court on June 26 for a mention.

The incident comes almost three months after five people were shot or stabbed during a bloody brawl between rival bikie gangs the Hells Angels and Finks at a kickboxing tournament on the Gold Coast.
