Accused dumps lawyer after bail denied over murder charge
A man has sacked his lawyer after being denied bail on an attempted murder charge.

Accused Yassar Bakir, from the Gold Coast in south-east Queensland, was charged over an alleged shooting at Main Beach on Friday night.

The member of the Finks motorcycle gang is charged with attempting to murder New Zealand man Pita William Wilson at the Spit on Friday night, after the pair had arranged a meeting.

Police have not been able to find a gun but the court heard nine-millimetre shells were found at Bakir's Arundel home.

Bail was opposed, with the prosecution submitting evidence the accused was planning to move to Dubai.

The prosecution also told the court they had had reports that Finks motorcycle club members had been circling the hospital where Wilson is being treated, and people with links to the club had been seeking to speak to him.

Bakir's defence lawyer Robin Tampoe told the court his client had returned from Sydney of his own free will when he heard there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Mr Tampoe said Bakir would be prepared to submit to home detention and he and his family would surrender their passports.

He also told the court Bakir needs specialist medical treatment after losing 29 per cent of his brain function in a car crash.

But Magistrate Ron Kilner said he believed Bakir could be appropriately treated while in custody and denied bail.

The 31-year-old will face a three day committal hearing in November.

Bakir sacked his lawyer at the end of the hearing.
