Accused murderer of
Gypsy Joker refused bail
One of the men charged with the murder of South Australian Gypsy
Joker Steven "Fly" Hydon application for bail was
refused yesterday.
His lawyer maintained that the accused was being held in maximum
isolation within the prison system - due to fears for his safety.
The prosecution maintained that due to the seriousness of the
offence bail should be opposed.
The prosecution went on to allege that the murder was a
deliberate act in retaliation to an earlier altercation between
the accused and some members of the Gypsy Jokers in the Weeroona
Hotel, Wallaroo, between 10pm and 10.30pm on Saturday, May 29.
Police maintain that the accused and an accomplice approached the
hotel in a car with its lights off .. pulled up next to the
victim .. shot him, then left at high speed.
A t-shirt, bullet casings and blood inside the car are believed
to form part of the prosecution evidence.
Members of the Gypsy Jokers and other potential witnesses were
asked to leave the courtroom when the accused appeared.
The co-accused (allegedly the driver) is due to appear later in
the month with his own bail application.
