NYP two
acquitted of murder
Two NYP men walked free from the
Supreme Court last week after having been acquitted for the shooting murder
of a Gypsy Jokers Motorcycle Club member.
Jesse Ray Penhall and Erin Mark
Woodward were accused of shooting dead Steven "Fly" Hydon outside the
Weeroona Hotel in May, 2004.
Mr Hydon, from Mount Gambier, had been
among about 30 Gypsy Jokers members on a weekend club run to the Yorke
Peninsula.
Mr Hydon was crossing the road at
about 3 am on Sunday, May 30, when he was shot twice in the chest, and died.
During the trial, it was alleged Mr
Penhall shot Mr Hydon as payback for an assault at the hands of club members
earlier in the night.
Both men pled not guilty to the murder
charge in the Supreme Court and, after a trial lasting six weeks, and four
hours of deliberation, the jury unanimously found the pair not guilty of
murder.
The men had spent more than two years
in custody awaiting trial.
