Insufficient evidence to say Hancock
murdered bikie: coroner
The Western Australian coroner says there is not enough evidence to identify
a former senior police officer as the murderer of a Gypsy Joker bikie in the
Goldfields, in the state's south-east, six years ago.
Former CIB chief Don Hancock was
murdered along with a friend in a car bomb attack in September 2001.
He was killed to avenge the death of
Gypsy Joker bikie Billy Grierson, who was shot in the settlement of Ora
Banda a year earlier.
An inquest was told Gypsy Joker bikies
believed Mr Hancock fired the shot.
But today coroner Alistair Hope said
there was insufficient evidence to conclude that he was responsible.
He did find that the former CIB chief
was a suspect, but said his subsequent murder severely limited his ability
to find out who killed Mr Grierson.
