GANG squad detectives investigating
the shooting of a bouncer outside a Kings Cross nightclub in February have
charged a Hells Angel member with concealing the offence.
Mehmet Hersli, 29, of Canterbury, is
the first person charged over the shooting outside Sapphire Suite and the
seventh Hells Angel arrested in Sydney in the past two months.
He was allegedly among a group of
Hells Angels refused entry to the nightclub shortly before midnight on
February 11. During an ensuing argument, one of the bikies allegedly
produced a handgun and fired several shots. A bullet hit a 27-year-old
security guard from Liverpool in the leg; another grazed the leg of a woman
waiting to enter the club.
Hersli was arrested about 9am on
Tuesday and charged with concealing a serious offence, having goods in
custody, possessing a poker machine and ammunition.
He appeared that day in Burwood Local
Court and was granted bail to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on
September 1. The Sapphire Suite shooting was the first in a recent spate in
the city and western suburbs involving bikie gangs.
A Nomad was shot outside Men's Gallery
in Pitt Street, allegedly by a Hells Angel, on March 16. Another Nomad was
shot at Showgirls in Darlinghurst Road on March 26.
