Mother's nightmare - a daughter caught by drugs

Shelley Lyndon could not look at the photo police took of her daughter Carrie last month.

It shows a 23-year-old with black eyes and pitted face, addicted to methamphetamine.

Compared with a picture taken six months ago of a pretty girl with blue eyes and blond hair, the haggard young woman staring at her looks nothing like Carrie.

The police photo was taken on June 13, after the shooting of Tribesman gang member Andre Wilson at a Waingaro property near Huntly on June 7.

Mrs Lyndon has only just found out her daughter was being interviewed by police because she was at the property when the 30-year-old was shot.

She is trying to come to terms with how deep her daughter has been pulled in by a drug which she says changed her.

"It's destroying. I've watched my daughter go from being a particular type or a particular look to something completely extreme.

"I saw the photo of her and after looking I couldn't deal with it."

Police found a methamphetamine lab at the Waingaro property where Mr Wilson's body was discovered.

Carrie Lyndon had been staying at the property with Outcasts gang member Kim Bruce Smith who has been on the run from police since December last year.

He is wanted on firearms, drugs and aggravated robbery charges. Now police want to speak to him about Wilson's death.

Mrs Lyndon says Smith has ruined her daughter's life.

His hold over her is so strong when Mrs Lyndon offered to shift her daughter to Australia 18 months ago, to get away from him, her daughter would not go.

"I remember her saying he'll find me no matter where I go, they're everywhere, they're everywhere."

Now police and Mrs Lyndon fear for her daughter's life.

Mrs Lyndon and her second daughter, Holly, have not seen or heard from Carrie since June 14, but received a phone call from a woman this week to say she was all right.

"We want to hear from her, not some woman," says her sister.

"You turn on the TV and hear about them pulling a body out of the Manukau Harbour and wonder if it is her," Mrs Lyndon says, referring to a police search in the harbour for the body reported by fishermen. The search was called off yesterday afternoon.

Mrs Lyndon and her daughter say they tried to talk to Carrie about Smith, whom she has known for four years, but she would always refuse.

When Smith, 41, went to prison last time, Mrs Lyndon says, her daughter told her it would give her time to move on, but then he was released and it all went backwards.

Now she just wants her daughter home.

"She has nothing to run from, she has done nothing wrong, she knows the wrong person.

"You read about killings, you read about drugs but they don't personally impact on you, then it does, I don't wish it on anybody."

Anyone with information on the pair is asked to contact police.
