'Rebels' are okay says park manager

The Merimbula Area Committee had no right to object to the proposed Rebels Motorcycle Club clubroom on the basis that it might interfere with the Pambula caravan park residents, says park manager John Price.

Mr Price said he was angry that he had not been consulted by MAC and questioned the committee's right to speak on the park's behalf.

He said that none of the park's residents had complained to him about the Rebels' behaviour.

He said the committee should alert the Bega Valley Shire Council to the "lie" and put the record straight before the council dealt with the development application.

"It's victimisation of the first order," Mr Price said.

"We've never had any trouble with the Rebels Motorcycle Club for as long as they have been there.

"All they are is a bunch of big boys with big toys," he said.

Mr Price said the Rebels had helped him manage noise in the street during the summer holiday period to allow park residents to have a good night's sleep.

"They go out of their way to help us out."

Mr Price said the bread delivery van made more noise than the occasional revving of a motorbike.

He said MAC and the police should be targeting the "local hoons who tear up and down the street doing doughnuts at 2am.

"MAC should back off the caravan park and stick to Merimbula instead of poking its nose into Pambula," Mr Price said.

He said he'd like to see MAC match the Rebels annual $1000 donation to the Pambula District Hospital.

"What does MAC do in the community? I'll tell you, they do nothing but whinge," Mr Price said.

The News Weekly notified MAC's secretary Ronda Lynch of Mr Price's concerns.

As a result Ms Lynch visited Mr Price, spoke with him and said that MAC would not retract its objection.
