Bikers plan to protect child
abuse victims
A group of Adelaide bikers plans to offer protection to victims of child
abuse by establishing a form of bikies neighbourhood watch.
The group Bikers Against Child Abuse
(BACA) says it is based on a similar scheme in the United States.
Two members of the American chapter of
BACA were in Adelaide this week.
They told ABC TV's Stateline they
offer support to victims against further harassment from their abusers.
But BACA spokesman Scooter insists the
group are not vigilantes.
"We're not out to exact any revenge
for what happened to them, we couldn't care less about the perps, that's not
our interest," he said.
"Our single narrow focus is to remove
their fear. Once we remove their fear they can start to be a kid again and
the healing process can start."
Local bikers say they hope to be a
fully-fledged chapter of BACA within 12 months.
