Rebels bikie owns hidden lab, say
police
A man who police say is a member of the Rebels motorcycle gang is facing
serious drug charges after the discovery of a clandestine lab in Adelaide's
north.
Detectives from Operation Avatar
raided the house in Modbury North overnight and allegedly discovered a drug
lab and drug making equipment throughout the property.
A 37-year-old Kangaroo Island man and
the home's 33-year-old owner are facing drug manufacturing charges.
The home owner is allegedly a member
of the Rebels motorcycle club.
Detective Inspector Damian Powell says
equipment allegedly used to make methamphetamines and other drugs, along
with cannabis plants and a gun have been seized.
"I guess the thing that sets this one
apart is that it's clear that this is an ongoing commercial enterprise and
at a level that is significantly higher than a lot of other labs that we've
located," he said.
Police will spend most of today
dismantling the lab.
Bikie arrested over drugs
June 23, 2006
A MOTORCYCLE gang member has been
arrested for drug offences after a police raid on a northern Adelaide house.
The 33-year-old Rebels motorcycle gang member and another man, a 37-year-old
from Kangaroo Island, were arrested after police discovered hydroponic
cannabis and a clandestine chemical drug laboratory during the raid.
Members from a specialist South
Australia Police squad targeting outlaw motorcycle gangs carried out the
raid last night at a Modbury North house.
They found a hydroponic cannabis
system set up in a bedroom, a police spokesman said.
Police also allegedly found a large
quantity of chemicals, laboratory equipment and glassware commonly used in
the manufacture of illicit drugs, and a sawn-off shotgun.
The two men were arrested during the
raid and jointly charged with manufacturing amphetamines and cultivating
cannabis.
They will appear in court at a later
date.
