Man arrested after gang brawl
A man has been arrested following a gang brawl in Murupara reported to have involved up to 20 people using weapons.
Murupara police and Rotorua detectives yesterday searched two houses in Murupara following an alleged fight between members of rival Tribesmen and Mongrel Mob gangs.
Police were called on Sunday night after reports up to 20 people were fighting with weapons.
Sergeant Rob Hutchins of the Murupara police said the fight had broken up by the time police arrived but searches of two houses yesterday resulted in an arrest.
A 20-year-old man has been charged with assault with a weapon, threatening grievous bodily harm and driving while forbidden.
Yesterday's searches also resulted in a 37-year-old woman being charged with cultivating cannabis and unlawful possession of a pistol.
