The Great (big pain in the arse..) Rebuild!

Update on the paint...went away for a week and it still wasnt dry, so out with the thinners and it did bring all the clearcoat off...and some of the orange, so Im almost starting again. However, tidied up some of the wiring , got the electronic compression releases working. Off to Natlis this morning, who've said they can make a spacer for the transmission sprocket, which will allow me to put the primary side on and start the beast. Brought a set of punches to shorten the chain another link, and when I get the trans sprocket on , and figure out what the little clips with the 'master' link are for I'll fit it...I seem to be doing everything on this rebuild twice. Id already set up the back brake, but needing to move the rear wheel as far forward as itll go to give as much chain adjustment as possible I found the paint on the frame stopped the calliper carrier/bracket moving forward. Pull the rear wheel, remove bracket, scrape off paint.Engage assistant to push in axel as I hold rear wheel in place. Hmm mustve touched the rear brake, as pads wont separate enough to allow the disc to go back between em..Pull the calliper from the bracket, replace rear wheel. Cant move the discs apart, so loosen the bleed nut. Replace everthing and rebleed brakes. except it dont wanna work...Finally decide it must be Id adjusted the brake up fairly tight, so loosen it off and try again..This time it works, and I readjust brake travel up again.. only took an hour or so all up...JFC...

Well I was having a good run, but I guess it had ta end sometime. Somethings wrong with the clearcoat, not drying....Was sold 2 types of hardener and suspect Ive used the wrong one, being Sunday I cant find out...Doesnt want to sand off or come off with thinner either...was strange, pick the tank up, leave a thumbprint indented in the clearcoat, and an hour later its gone! Managed to finally get the alternator rotor off the old engine, tap the couple of holes already in it and use a puller...Found that the rotor had been hitting the stator wires that go to the regulator, cut one nearly through, probably due to the movement I suspect the bottom end has in it now. Went to fit the new chain. It had to be cut to size and the new $50 tool I bought to do it with self imploded, and finally broke..ho hum...Did get the exhaust on, the ignition in and the front end finished, except for the brakes cos one nut/connection doesnt want to tighten...Back brakes work tho...Carb is on, new design aircleaner...slots in it..

what a mess!getting ready to shift house and do this is not fun...The exhaust is a Melbourne made 2 into1 ive been running for 8 or nine years..works well, but the chrome was shot, so a coat or 2 of vht black will do for now...better than $800 for a new one.
