The Great (big pain in the arse..) Rebuild!

13/12 yeehaa got the frame back yesterday, 7deg rake and as straight as they could get it, $750 , not too bad I thought...

Bit tricky mounting flatside tanks to a dyna frame...kits wont work as the top mount needs to be a bit higher than theyre made...but seeing its a rubbermount engine I figure it doesnt need a rubber mount tank so Ill bolt it straight on...

drilled and tapped 2 3/8" holes into top of backbone, keeping the bolts short given the loom passes thru the frame...These are enough to support the tank while I put some flat bar to the top front mounts and then weld the bar to the frame.., just gotta get some! The tape was to mark the extent back and front of the original tank to get the new ones in the right place...had to ease the undersides of the brackets with the 4" grinder so they sit on the frame squarely...(or nearly..)

30/11 AAh the frame was worse than even I expected bent wise, so be a wee while yet, meanwhile the tanks and bags arrived.

big ugly mothers...hope they look good painted! mounting to a dyna frame will be interesting, but I have a couple of ideas...

Bags werent quite what I was expecting (for some reason,..) they look small off a bike, be interesting to see what theyre like on.....

Well J&P cycles did the job and got the stuff here ok, bloody shipping was 3/4 the price of the goods tho, $750.00 all up, plus $135odd at this end, which I aint been charged yet for some reason. (gotta pay customs charge plus 10% GST). I guess its still worth the effort/risk to save a few bucks...
