Five Rebels bikies arrested after 10-month investigation
Police have arrested five members of the Rebels Motorcycle Club in Auckland and Christchurch on drug, firearms, and organised crime charges.
The arrests came after a 10-month investigation.
The five men faced more than 25 charges between them, including possession and supply of methamphetamine and cannabis.
Multiple firearms and quantities of cannabis and methamphetamine were recovered during the investigation.
Police said the investigation forced the bikies out of a "gang pad" located near a Christchurch school.
"The arrests today send a clear message to the Rebels from police that we will not tolerate their criminal behaviour in Canterbury," said Detective Senior Sergeant Jason Stewart in a release.
"The type of social harm caused by these
organisations cannot be underestimated and police will continue work to disrupt
and dismantle their criminal activities.
"The supply of drugs is a major driver of other crimes such as burglary, assault
and theft by people who are trying to finance their drug use."
The men were due to appear in the Christchurch and Auckland district courts on
Friday.
