Qld motorcyclist bashed over jacket: court

Motorcycle enthusiasts in north Queensland say they're shocked by an attack on a rider, allegedly bashed by three Rebels bikies for wearing a leather jacket.

Arthur Chamberlin Juckes, Mark Brenton Blomeley and Joshua Graeme Hutchins appeared in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday charged over the assault.

Police allege one of the men approached a motorcyclist at Palm Cove, north of Cairns, on December 21 and told him to take off his jacket which had "Harley Davidson" written on it.

The 49-year-old man refused and returned to Cairns.

It is alleged the accused Rebels members tracked down the man to his Cairns home and assaulted him later that day, leaving him seriously injured.

Stephen Tobias, director of the Cape York Harley Owners Group, says his members are shocked by the attack.

"Certainly (our members are a bit shaken up), particularly at this time of year," he told media in Cairns on Monday.

"You don't expect something like this to happen over the Christmas break."

Mr Tobias says this was an isolated incident and he wasn't aware of any other members being approached by bikie gang members.

He hopes the arrests will send a message that assaults against motorcycle enthusiasts wouldn't be tolerated.

Juckes, Blomeley and Hutchins have each been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in company of a Vicious Lawless Associate.

They have been remanded in custody and will appear in court next Monday.
