A JURY has acquitted two bikies who were accused of leading a violent assault on a former member.
Simon David Hum, 47, of Horeshoe Bend, and Luke Gregory Stevens, 29, of Belstone Avenue, Belmont, were found not guilty of wounding former Gladiator Peter Bell with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.
The pair, both members of the Maitland chapter of the Gladiators, had been accused of leading the assault on Mr Bell in a suburban street in East Maitland on November 15, 2012.
The jury heard Mr Bell had been hit twice by a car and beaten around the head and body with baseball bats and other weapons, leaving him with several open wounds requiring stitches, a broken leg and a broken arm.
The Newcastle District Court jury returned with the not guilty verdicts on Friday following the two-week trial.
