AN ALLEGED senior member of the Darwin Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang has appeared in Darwin Magistrates Court charged with drug offences.

Andrew Summerfield, 22, and a 21-year-old man were arrested at their Yarrawonga clubhouse on Monday.

Summerfield was charged with possession of a trafficable quantity of methamphetamine, possession of steroids, possession of ammunition without a permit and breach of bail.

He appeared briefly in court yesterday wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.

Defence lawyer Julia Ker asked for the matter to be adjourned until today. The 21-year-old man was charged with similar offences and will appear in court on October 29.

Following the arrests, Detective Superintendent Kris Evans said the Northern Territory Gangs Task Force would continue to detect, disrupt and dismantle organised crime carried out by gangs.

“These Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs represent a significant threat to the community. Many of their members are involved in violence, drug distribution and standover behaviour,” he said.

“This is the second significant arrest of a Rebel member in Darwin in the last month, we hope the message to these gangs is clear.”
