Amazing bodycam footage of gunpoint bikie arrests

POLICE say four members of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang have been arrested on the Sunshine Coast after raids uncovered guns, including a semi-automatic AK47 replica.

Detectives from the Sunshine Coast District Gang Squad and Task Force Maxima executed simultaneous search warrants early Friday morning at Eerwah Vale, Tewantin, Cooriobah and Doonan.

Police will allege these searches resulted in the location of a handgun and ammunition, hidden in a specially constructed secret compartment, a semi-automatic AK47 replica and a small quantity of cannabis.

As a result, four people were arrested overnight and are scheduled to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court later today.

  • A 56- year-old man from Eerwah Vale, believed to be patched member of the Rebels criminal motorcycle gang, has been charged with unlawful possession a category H weapon (handgun), possession of explosives (ammunition) and two counts of breach of bail.
  • A 36-year-old man from Kunda Park, believed to be a patched member of the Rebels criminal motorcycle gang, has been charged with unlawful possession a category R weapon (Semi-automatic AK47 replica).
  • A 36-year-old man from Tewantin, believed to be a patched member of the Rebels criminal motorcycle gang, has been charged with unlawful possession a category R weapon (Semi-automatic AK47 replica)

  • A 39-year-old woman from Tewantin has also been offered drug diversion for unlawful possession of a dangerous drug (cannabis).

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Taskforce Maxima said the use of specially constructed hidden compartments used to store illegal weapons clearly shows the sophistication of the criminality some of these gangs go to.

"The possession illegal handguns has me asking 'why do they need them', if they are not involved in serious crime.

Illegal weapons put all Queenslanders at risk," he said.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards, officer in Charge of Sunshine Coast District Criminal Investigation Branch, praised the cooperation between police units to ensure a safer community.

"We work closely with Taskforce Maxima and make use of all possible resources to target the unlawful behaviour of these gangs. We will be unrelenting in our efforts," he said.
