Adam McCrea back in jail after failing cocaine test
CONVICTED cocaine trafficker Adam McCrea has been sent back to jail for a parole violation.
The former Hervey Bay Rebels bikie boss, who was released last August after serving two years of a seven-and-a-half-year sentence, was on a parole condition not to use drugs when he returned a positive urine test for cocaine last week.
A warrant was issued on Monday and McCrea was arrested that evening before being sent back to jail on Tuesday.
McCrea, 49, was jailed in 2012 for the part he played in a cocaine trafficking ring between the Gold Coast and Hervey Bay.
He failed to persuade a judge that the $102,000 worth of cocaine he had sourced over five months was for personal use and the 100 ecstasy pills discovered during raids of his property, which also uncovered marijuana, steroids, handcuffs and bullets, were to support his then-girlfriend's drug habit.
Early last year McCrea, who was on a disability support pension when the trafficking charges were laid, lost a fight to stop the Crime and Misconduct Commission from confiscating $84,655 from him as proceeds of crime.
The crime watchdog seized the bulk of cash found at McCrea's Takura property as well as proceeds from the sale of the Hervey Bay tattoo shop he had owned with his former wife.
McCrea will serve a mandatory 28 days in jail for breaching a court-ordered drug test before his parole is reviewed.
