A GUNMAN is on the run after shooting a man dead in Western Sydney.

Married father of one, Adrian Buxton, was putting out the bins at his Colyton home when he was executed.

His wife and young son were inside the home when he was gunned-down.

It is believed one of the gunshots hit Mr Buxton in the head and at least two men were seen running from the scene after the shots rang out.

Mr Buxton’s aunt, Kelly Keesing, took to Facebook to express her heartbreak.

“R.I.P Adrian Buxton (My first nephew) you will be sadly missed but now you’re riding the highway in the sky with your Dad mate,” Ms Keesing said.

“You can finally teach him how to ride a Harley. Two family member Funerals in a month is more than one can bare my Poor sister I am thinking of you and can not send enough hugs.”

Strikeforce Thistleton, comprised of local and homicide police, as been formed to investigate the murder.

St Mary’s Police Superintendent Greg Peters said police were exploring a number of theories as to why Mr Buxton was gunned-down.

“There were a number of shots... but it’s too early to say how many times he’s been shot and where he’s been shot,” the superintendent said.
