An ambulance tried to help the 36-year-old man who was declared dead at the scene just after 10am on Friday, February 20.
Banyule detective Senior Sergeant Kevin O’Connell said police believe the man, an unlicensed rider on a stolen motorbike, tried to overtake a turning Mazda station wagon on Cameron Pde just before 10am that morning.
Sen-Sgt O’Connell said the rider misjudged the situation and crashed into the side of the car.
He said the rider flew through the air, over the car and picket fence, landing on his back on the front garden of a home on the corner of Cameron Parade and Sandhurst Crescent.
While paramedics tried to treat the man, he died at the scene, Sen-Sgt O’Connell said.
He said police believe the man had links to the Hells Angels and Nomad bikie group from Thomastown.
