ABC pays for bikie probe security beef-up

THE ABC has reportedly paid for a security upgrade at the home of the man leading the Queensland government bikie crackdown.

AN ABC report broadcast details of retired brigadier Bill Mellor's Brisbane home address during a story on his appointment in December.

The Sunday Mail reports that Premier Campbell Newman complained about the "security breach" and insisted the ABC pay for a security upgrade at brigadier Mellor's home.

The ABC apologised and agreed to foot the bill, and the upgrade was carried out by brigadier Mellor's own private security firm, the report said.

He is the principal director of Due Vigilance Pty Ltd and co-directs the Australian arm of Singapore's IPS Securex, which supplies surveillance equipment.

Brigadier Mellor has declined to comment.

Comment has been sought from the premier and the ABC.
