A Canberra court has been told some witnesses involved in the trial of a man accused of murdering a Rebels Motorcycle Club member fear for their lives.

Russell Field, 20, is expected to go on trial in just over a week for the shooting murder of Richard John Roberts, 57, and Gregory Peter Carrigan, 48, at a Chisholm home in March 2009.

Mr Roberts was a life-long member of the Rebels Motorcycle Club.

Police have previously told the ACT Supreme Court, the club might seek retribution for the death.

It is understood that the prosecution and defence counsel have been consulting with the police over what security measures might need to be in place for the trial.

Field's barrister told the court, some witnesses do not want to be named because they fear for their lives.
