BREAKING NEWS: Crime and Misconduct Commission raids on properties in Cairns and
the Gold Coast have uncovered a widespread, bikie gang-related drug distribution
network, stretching as far south as Melbourne.
Five people were arrested in the CMC raids, which were carried out with the
support of police, on 19 drug related charges including trafficking and supply
of dangerous drugs.
The raids were the final phase of an extensive covert investigation, Operation
Warrior, which was a joint operation between the CMC and police in Queensland,
Victoria and New South Wales.
CMC director of crime operations Det Acting Chief Supt Ian Parsons said over the
past year Operation Warrior had involved a large number of other raids, drug and
cash seizures and arrests.
“Just last month the joint task force executed search warrants on 20 properties
in Cairns, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne," he said.
“More than $650,000 in cash was seized, as well as large amounts of cannabis,
precursor chemicals for the production of GHB (fantasy) and hydroponics
equipment."
Since the operation began last year, a total 71 arrests have been made on 283
serious drug related charges, including 24 people for drug trafficking.
Investigators have uncovered $2.5 million worth of drugs including 2.5kg of
methylamphetamine, 91kg of cannabis, 2.2kg of ecstasy, 1.3L of GHB, steroids and
cocaine.
A drug production laboratory and two hydroponics cannabis grow houses were also
located by the investigations.
More than $7 million worth of property including real estate, vehicles, a boat
and $1.2 million in cash have been seized as a result of the operation.
