Fire at business treated as suspicious

STAFF REPORTERS, The West Australian Updated April 8, 2012, 2:25 pm

UPDATE 2.25pm: Arson squad detectives are investigating a suspicious fire that caused damage to a Welshpool business this morning.

Firefighters were called to the Welshpool Road property Watson's Logistics and Transport about 3.30am.

The blaze caused damage to an office building and truck. The Arson squad estimates the damage repair bill will be $100,000.

It is not the first time the business has been damaged by fire. In 2010, The West Australian reported that gang crime squad officers were investigating whether the Finks bikie gang set fire to Watson's Express Transport trucks on January 3 as part of an elaborate $500,000 extortion.

The West reported in 2010: "Owner Robert Watson said neither he nor his staff had links to underworld organisations or motorcycle groups. Detectives are investigating a lead that Finks bikies threatened Mr Watson after his company refused to transport drugs for the gang."
