Bikie gang had arms cache, court told
July 7, 2006

A VIOLENT bikie gang kept a cache of weapons in a Melbourne house, including a machine-gun and pump action shotguns, a court heard.

Sergeant-at-arms of the Bro's Motorcycle Club Simon Henri Pienaar, 43, of Yarraville, has pleaded guilty to six charges of possessing the 10 unregistered firearms.

But he denies owning them, except for one handgun.

Pienaar told the County Court the guns found in a raid on his house on July 6 last year were left by a former club member, who cannot be named.

Police found more guns at a separate clubhouse.

Prosecutor Robert Johnston said the role of sergeant-at-arms was to maintain gang discipline and Pienaar was the custodian of weapons. The purpose of keeping guns was "to do violence to others as and when required", Mr Johnston said.

The court heard Pienaar had said he had to look after the guns for the other member, whom he feared. Sentencing was adjourned.
