Too many bikers on one
trip
02mar05
TT-Line security staff were outnumbered on the night a group of bikers
caused damage to Spirit of Tasmania II , a Parliamentary committee heard
yesterday.
Liberals leader Rene
Hidding asked TT-Line chiefs why the members of the Coffin Cheaters bikie
gang had been allowed back on the Spirit II when they had damaged it during
rowdy scenes on a crossing from Melbourne to Devonport in late October
TT-Line chief
executive Peter Simmons said bikie groups were usually well organised and
the TT-Line had little trouble with them.
"On this particular
night some of them became impaired through alcohol or whatever."
Mr Simmons said the
bikies were told they would not be allowed back on the vessel but an
agreement was later reached.
