SIX police officers have been stood down after allegedly damaging
property inside an outlaw bikie gang's clubhouse while off duty.
The six Darwin-based police officers were allegedly involved in two
illegal raids on the Finks Motorcycle gang clubhouse in Alice
Springs on Sunday.
Members of the bikie gang reported the alleged raids to police. The
six officers are known to have been part of a major operation
conducted in Alice Springs mounted over the past week to keep tabs
on the bikie gang.
More than 100 Finks bikie club members and their associates have
converged on Alice Springs in recent weeks.
It is believed the bikies have arrived from Adelaide and Brisbane.
Police media director Sandra Mitchell said NT Police were pursuing
the matter "with all vigour".
The investigation into the alleged raids is being overseen by the
Ethical and Professional Standards Command which is reporting
directly to Deputy Commissioner Bruce Wernham.
A police source told the Northern Territory News members of the
Darwin-based elite Tactical Response Section would remain in Alice
Springs until the outlaw bikie gang had left the town.
More Darwin-based general duties police are also believed to have
flown into Alice yesterday.
On Tuesday police in Alice Springs conducted a lawful raid on the
Finks clubhouse and seized 60 litres of spirits. ( Wow! what a
bust!!, commendations all round boys! bet that pays for the
overtime....and have ya drank it all already???)
