Police probe links to Coast bikies
after woman says she was bashed, kicked
18.04.2006
POLICE are investigating links to the
Bandidos Motorcycle Club after a woman was allegedly bashed, kicked and
dragged behind a motorcycle in a vicious assault at the weekend.
The woman, aged in her 40s, claims she
was drinking at the outlaw motorcycle gang’s Caloundra clubhouse on Saturday
night before she was allegedly attacked.
The woman is believed to have suffered
a broken nose, broken cheekbone, concussion, cuts and required staples down
the side of her head.
She claimed she was tied behind a
motorcycle and dragged along a roadway by people linked to the Bandidos in
retaliation for a previous incident.
A Bandidos spokesperson said he was at
the clubhouse on Saturday night but did not know anything about the alleged
assault.
The woman has not made a complaint to
police and did not want to assist police further with the matter.
But police have made preliminary
investigations.
Police spoke to the woman at length in
Nambour General Hospital on Saturday night.
Ambulance officers responded to
reports of a badly assaulted female near the Mobil service station on the
corner of Caloundra Road and Bronwyn Street just after 9pm on Saturday.
The Bandidos’ Sunshine Coast clubhouse
is tucked behind the Mobil service station in Caloundra’s industrial estate.
Sunshine Coast chapter members had
been celebrating with colleagues from across Queensland and Australia who
were visiting the area for the third annual Bike and Hot Rod Show at the
Caloundra Australian Rules Football Club.
The show, which attracted a crowd
estimated at 7000 people, had been a highlight for many Sunshine Coast
families.
This investigation comes as an angry
father calls for safer Mooloolaba streets (Story page 5) after a weekend of
shocking violence which marred the Coast’s Easter celebrations.
His son, a young lifesaver, was bashed
unconscious beside a busy Mooloolaba road just minutes after trying to save
another man’s life about 11.30pm Saturday.
A few hours earlier a Mooloolaba man
was charged with unlawful wounding after allegedly slashing a Brisbane
21-year-old’s arm in Pangarinda Place.
Police suspect the woman was assaulted
during the Bandidos after-party and are appealing for any witnesses to call
Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Caloundra detectives plan to pursue
the matter but a media spokesperson said police must “determine how
successful any future prosecution would likely be without the co-operation
of the victim”.
The Queensland Police Service’s State
Crime Operations Command conducts investigations into the activities of
outlaw motorcycle gangs across the state but police would not speculate on
local links to organised crime.
