A MEMBER of the Finks bikie gang was granted bail today after allegedly
assaulting a bouncer at a popular Gold Coast pub.
Nicholas John Forbes appeared in Southport Magistrates Court today charged with
assault occasioning bodily harm, following allegations he tried to assault a
bouncer at Fisherman's Wharf Tavern in Main Beach last night.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Warren Murdock said Forbes used a broken shot glass
to try to strike the bouncer but he failed to make impact with the weapon.
The incident occurred after Forbes, 37, of Hope Island on the Gold Coast, was
told to leave the tavern for allegedly assaulting an unknown male.
Sergeant Murdock alleged an associate of the bikie then hit the bouncer in the
back of the head.
Forbes later allegedly used his thumb to gouge the eye and mouth of the bouncer,
who had jumped on top of the defendant to subdue him.
Defence solicitor Darren Mahoney claimed Forbes was acting in self-defence after
being provoked by the bouncer.
``I would argue that the security officer acted outside the parameters of his
authority,'' said Mr Mahoney, adding Forbes would be defending the charge.
Magistrate Ray Rinaudo granted bail with several conditions, including that
Forbes stay at least 500m away from Fisherman's Wharf Tavern, report regularly
to police, abide by a curfew and avoid contact with any staff from Blue Steel
security.
Forbes was ordered to reappear in court on October 2.
