5000 potentially lethal drugs seized

FIVE-THOUSAND Red Mitsubishi tablets have been seized by police just days
before Adelaide's Big Day Out concert.
Police could not confirm the potentially lethal drugs were headed for the
event.
Detective Inspector Graham Goodwin described the drug seizure as
"significant". "We believe the removal of 5000 tablets of the potentially
lethal and dangerous Red Mitsubishi from the community is extremely
important and significant," he said.
The drugs were found hidden in a Tea Tree Gully home by members of the
anti-bikie police unit Operation Avatar and the police dog squad on
Wednesday.
A "large quantity" of white powder believed to be amphetamine was also found
hidden in the house.
A pistol with a loaded ammunition magazine and part of a shotgun were seized
along with a taser stun-gun designed to look like a mobile phone.
"The house was extensively searched - a lot of property, drugs and firearms
were located throughout the premises," Inspector Goodwin said.
A 44-year-old Tea Tree Gully man was arrested and charged with possession of
amphetamine for sale, unlawful possession and several firearm offences. He
was bailed to appear in the Holden Hill Magistrates Court on February 17.
Detective Inspector Goodwin refused to say if the man was already known to
Avatar members.
He said there may be further arrests as a result of the raid.
Red Mitsubi...ablets, a mixture of ecstasy and caffeine, have been linked to
two deaths and dozens of overdoses in South Australia since October.
Red Mitsubishi has a street price of between $30 and $75.
The Big Day Out concert will be held at the showgrounds from 11am
until 11pm today.
The event is an all-ages event but is aimed at the 14 to 30 age group.
